Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone received "mixed or average" reviews according to review aggregator Metacritic. Simply cast one of your spells with the colour you desire, then switch to the other spell of your choosing by casting it into a wall where its graphics will not occur. Attend lessons, learn and cast spells, explore Hogwarts and take flight to play Quidditch on your Nimbus Two Thousand. They're full fledged classic Final Fantasy-Style RPGs, they have amazing exploration, addictive gameplay-loop, very satisfying turn-based combat, fun mini games and cool collectibles! While the dungeons can be tricky, there's nothing quite as difficult as the Quidditch parts of the game; while the matches don't necessarily need to be won, there are sections of the game which have to be completed on a broomstick that can prove to be difficult to control and to pass.

On the Quidditch sequences, Harris and Villoria concluded that they lacked ambition and were not as exciting as they could have been. There's some Quidditch and broomstick flying involved, but the controls for this were rubbish and made these parts a bit of a chore to play. I read a review saying the gameboy games in general were better than any console versions at the time. Harris remarked that "it's almost as if the artists actually digitized [ Harry Potter actor] Alan Rickman in his deadpan stroll for his game representation". Whilst we purchased this as a presumably robust testbed for epilepsy treatments, none of the team could have predicted the carnage which ensued. You spend most of that time attempting to direct your little Harry Potter from one end of 'hogworts' to another to perform another menial task of little interest or concequence.

The Game Boy Advance version, along with the Game Boy Color and PlayStation versions, was designed with input from Harry Potter author J. The Game Boy Advance version was released simultaneously with the PlayStation and Game Boy Color versions and received mixed reviews from critics. Players who've never seen the movies or read the book will find the game to be a boring and confusing experience, and those who are Harry Potter fans will miss their favourite parts of the story, and find the characters to be less than engaging. There is a glitch that allows the player to change the colour of their currently equipped spell into the last one they cast at first. As you progress through the game (and the story), you learn new spells and find hidden items like Bertie Botts beans and wizard cards. In the book and movie, Neville breaks his wrist after falling off a broomstick from a great height during the flying lesson, what allows Malfoy to steal his Remembrall. I especially enjoyed the multi-character-based puzzles and the new spells that Harry, Ron and Hermione can cast, all of them useful for different reasons. Upon reaching Hogwarts, the trio follow the events of the novel, and learn magic by attending classes.
