Some of the scenes are drawn like a children’s comic book and I especially loved his illustration for Spaceboy with his metal head and flowing cape. Thought it was a little dark with the way the kids were treated and their backstories for younger kids but each one to themselves. This really sounds like the movie "Chicken Run": damsel in distress, "flying" boy who to the rescue -but is he really flying? As always, Walliams’ text, in combination with illustrations by Adam Stower, is both heartwarming and hilarious, perfect reading material for readers of eight years and older.

It introduces us to a daredevil girl who is a science nerd and not afraid to stand up for herself or her friends. At times I felt like I was reading Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, but Walliams definitely has his own signature on his work and Dahl, while clearly a strong influence, is not channelled. Sometimes I wonder if the humor is as clear to children as adults, but I certaiinly cracked up with all the jabs/exaggerated characteristics of america (and the president). She spends her days reading comics about alien invasions, doodling UFOs and gazing at the stars through her old, battered telescope. Best-known for his novels for children including Mr Stink, Billionaire Boy and Awful Auntie, Walliams has also written a number of picture books including The Slightly Annoying Elephant, working with two of Britain’s most talented illustrators, Quentin Blake and Tony Ross. One night, using the telescope she's scavenged to watch the stars, Ruth is astounded to see an ACTUAL UFO crashing near the farm.
